Frequently Asked Questions
Are windows included as shown in pictures?
The short answer is "NO" (however, our Elite Products do include windows, amongst other additional upgrades - be sure to review specific product details carefully under the "Features" section). At Best Barns, our products are structured for customers who enjoy the flexibility in selecting their own accent items. Therefore, ancillary items like windows, shingles, standard garage doors are NOT included and would be the responsibility of the customer to purchase separately.
What else do I need to purchase?
Depending on the exact model ordered, you may need to purchase paint/stain, shingles/or metal roofing, windows, and doors (man door/garage door as desired). We offer our robust wooden FortressFloorTM option that may be purchased as well.
Will I need a floor?
Yes, you will need a cement slab or a wooden floor. If you desire a cement floor, you may choose to order a kit without a floor. If you order a kit with a floor, you will receive our robust wooden FortressFloorTM option. Ensure the floor is built to the correct size for the model being purchased. DO NOT make the floor larger than required.
Is assembly included with your shed kits?
No. Best Barns only offers "do it yourself" (DIY) shed kits. If assembly is required, customers must hire their own contractor/construction company as needed.
What does a Do-it-Yourself kit mean?
Best Barns DIY kits provide pre-cut components designed for the homeowner to assemble. Depending on the model and accessories ordered some cutting may be required.
What tools do I need to assemble this shed kit?
No specialty tools are needed. The most common tools needed are a drill, ladder, hammer, saw, tape measure, pencil, safety glasses, square and 6′ level.
How do deliveries work?
Large DIY kits from Best Barns are delivered curbside with liftgate via a common carrier. Although the driver may have a pallet jack, placement and movement of the delivery beyond the end of driveway is the customer's responsibility. We recommend having additional help at the time of delivery.
Our retail partners (Home Depot, Lowe’s and Menards) also offer a ship-to-store option (customer makes arrangements to either pick the kit up or have the store deliver). This option may be helpful if you are located in a remote location or have specific needs that a common carrier cannot provide.
How long does it take to ship once the shed kit is ordered?
Once we receive the order it normally takes 5-7 days to ship the item.
Can I use a nail gun?
Best Barns' kits are shipped with loose nails for framing by hand. You may choose to build using a nail gun but the nails for your nail gun will need to be purchased separately.
How long does it take to assemble?
Once the floor is complete, level and square, it typically takes 2-3 people about 2-3 days to complete. Individual skill and size of kit will affect these times.
What if I have a question during construction?
Call Best Barns 1-800-245-1577 between 8AM to 5PM EST or 724-866-4357 after hours and weekends.
Will I need to paint the kit?
Yes. Siding comes primed and will need to be painted with exterior acrylic latex paint within 30 days of construction.
What does prepped for vinyl mean?
Some models are designed so the homeowner may finish with exterior siding other than LP Smartside paneling. Most customers opt for vinyl siding but other exterior siding can be applied such as stucco and wood lap siding. Exterior siding is purchased separately by homeowner.
Where can I find instruction manuals?
You may download the instruction manual for your model here.
How many shingles will I need?
Regarding information pertaining to the number of shingles needed for your specific model, please reference the corresponding instruction manual.
How large are the pallets?

What type of standard building materials do you use?
- TimberPrestige wood products are utilized on various wall framing (2x4 construction) and truss systems - We select premium imported Eurowood, which means less knots, warping and splintering offering greater ease of assembly, consistency, rigidity, and overall structural integrity.
- SecureTruss System - Utilizes our Timber Prestige product, coupled with 2x4 wood framing and excessive quantities of Hurricane Hangers, Collar Ties, Gussets, Tie Plates and a Two-Stud Corner robust construct. Do I need a permit for Best Barns shed kits?
Depending on where you live and the size of Best Barns structure you intend to purchase, a permit may be needed. Before making a purchase, always check with your local HOA or building code department to determine if a permit is required.
Can some of your kits be used as a tiny house?
Some customers have converted our kits into livable spaces. However, there are some things to consider. Local building code requirements for human occupancy, optional window upgrades are not insulated, trusses are 2×4 construction which will be difficult to insulate properly, the dormers for select models cannot be insulated, barn and/or sliding doors cannot be insulated.
Are documents available for submission to permit office?
Yes. You can reference our individual product permitting documents here. For any special requests please contact us directly for information regarding permitting. You may call us at 1-800-245-1577 between 8AM to 5PM EST, or at 724-866-4357 on weekend or after normal business hours.
